School nursery extension is pure class

27th January 2021

AN impressive extension to the nursery at Whitelees Primary School in Cumbernauld was today (January 27, 2021) handed over after an extensive refurbishment and construction programme.

Procast displayed all their professionalism, commitment and experience to deliver the £500,000 project for North Lanarkshire Council in 37 weeks, despite interruptions caused by the COVID pandemic.

Present at the completion handover ceremony were NLC architect Robin Jefferson, acting Head Teacher Laura Murdoch, Principal Teacher Carol Stewart, Acting Principal Teacher Gioia McAuley, Procast Site Manager Brian Galloway and Contracts Manager Kevin Kozicki.

The works feature two types of exterior cladding – Trespa high-pressure compact laminate and Vieo folded-seam metal strip sheeting.

Other notable features include brickwork, sandpit play area and a suspended concrete play zone.

Internally, there is a learning kitchen and more play areas – and the technical works included all plumbing, electrics, lighting, joinery, new doors, decoration and a full alarm system install for the entire school.

During the refurbishment and construction, the children were moved temporarily to nearby Abronhill Community Centre in Cumbernauld, where Procast’s Lisamarie Innes took the opportunity to give the wee ones an understanding of the building industry.

Procast director Frank McManus said: “The new facilities are a fantastic addition to the school and the wider community, and we are pleased it has been welcomed by the clients at North Lanarkshire Council.”
