Tesla first for Procast

31st January 2022

PROCAST’S first-ever Tesla domestic battery installation has been completed – and it is hoped it will pave the way for many more.

The compact home system was fitted to the exterior of a local authority property in Manor Drive, Airdrie, last week.

The set-up comprises a Tesla Powerwall 2 battery attached to the rear of the property and roof-fixed photovoltaic solar panels.

Ensuring optimal performance, the system forms part of a “whole house” retrofit that is designed to operate in as energy-efficient a manner as possible, with all aspects of the building – including new internal nd external wall insulation – complementing each other.

Powerwall is an integrated battery system that stores energy generated by the solar cells, thereby reducing reliance on the electricity grid and helping to drive down power bills.

Procast installed the system free of charge for clients North Lanarkshire Council in order to give them a robust platform to monitor the benefits first-hand and to assist with their drive to keep residents’ energy bills down across the entire local authority area.

The decision to fit the Powerwall battery and PV panels came after discussions between both parties on ways to improve the energy performance of homes undergoing modernisation as part of the Measured Term Contract being delivered by Procast.

The subject of ever-increasing energy costs cropped up, and the conversation then continued back at the company’s HQ in Strathaven before developing into a more detailed plan of action for NLC’s delivery team.

After hearing the discussion, Procast Group Managing Director Derek Innes promised to donate the Tesla battery for fitting to a local authority house at no cost to NLC or the resident.

The Tesla Powerwall 2 is a fully integrated and easy-to-install AC battery system for residential or light commercial use.

Its rechargeable lithium-ion pack provides energy storage for solar self-consumption and time-based control.

A Procast spokesman said: “As a Tesla installation partner, we are extremely excited and proud to embark on this journey into expanding the interaction and installations of renewable energy measures.”
