Leading full turnkey and retrofit contractor, Procast Group, has successfully completed a major £2.5 million RAAC remediation and refurbishment project at Ravenswood Primary School in Cumbernauld, with the school now fully reopened to staff and pupils.
The project, delivered on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council, has transformed key areas of the school and addressed the presence of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), ensuring the building is safe, secure and fit for the future.
Works began in 2025 and were delivered over a 48-week programme, with Procast Group undertaking the removal and replacement of RAAC panels across the school’s gym, dining hall, boiler room and open-plan teaching areas.
The completed works have replaced the structurally-compromised RAAC panels with modern, durable roof construction, providing long-term reassurance for pupils, staff and the wider school community.
Alongside the RAAC remediation, the Procast Group team delivered a comprehensive programme of associated works, including the temporary removal, storage and recommissioning of the boiler plant, internal refurbishment, structural improvements, and additional mechanical and electrical upgrades.
Specialist crane operations and tented scaffolding systems were used during the project to enable the safe removal of the RAAC panels while maintaining the building’s weatherproofing throughout the works.
With the project now complete, Ravenswood Primary School has reopened its doors to staff and pupils, marking the successful conclusion of a significant programme of investment and improvement.

Ravenswood Primary School, located on Tiree Road, Cumbernauld, was one of a number of schools in Scotland identified as containing RAAC, a lightweight concrete material commonly used in buildings constructed between the mid-1950s and mid-1990s.
