The Project

This much-loved former school was built to the designs of Paisley architect John Hutchison, who is known for his apprenticing of world-renowned Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The 120-year-old building is being kept alive through use a commercial, conferencing and educational space, and it was badly in need of external upgrades that would preserve the structure for decades to come.

The Approach

Procast drew on their extensive experience of carrying out sympathetic improvements to historic buildings with a lasting community purpose. Works included the removal and replacement of all cast gutters, downpipes, soil vent pipes, tiles, slates, battens, felt, sarking boards, concrete roof tiles, lead flashings, lead gutters, lead cladding and mastic; chimney remedial works; stone masonry works, including, re-pointing, lithomix repairs and ashlar stone replacement; removal and replacement of existing render; timber replacement and preservation works to ventilation and bell towers, plus external decoration.

The Outcome

The final result is a striking and welcome improvement not only to the appearance ofAbercorn House but to its fabric as well.
